Thanks for the compliment, Harma. Sometimes I don't feel that young anymore, but it's still nice to hear :)

Yesterday I saw my Dutch neighbour and she just told me that people were happily getting ready for skating, there in Holland, since it's frozing 'cause of the cold. From your comment here above I can get why she sounded excited at the idea.

Wishing you all a nice (and possibly milder!) new week!

Yes, a pity no one else comes here to chat a 'lil.. :(
Anyway, I hope you both are doing well, in spite of the difficulties with water/heating. Luckily, here we had only a thin layer of snow the other night, and after a few hourse it was already gone. It's still very cold and windy, but everything is working as usual.

Have a good evening! :)

hallo to everybody! That's ok, but personally I don't really use it, I think it's more american :D

i'm really tired.. Less colder is not write, you have to say: less cold :eek:k07:
many plants of mine (the correct way to say that espression is: many of my plants)are in verandah, others are out (outside) and it seems they are died dead or they're dying...

Ok, I've just pointed you some mistakes that you made, be very careful with your grammar and vocabulary.
Don't worry so much about it, you're learning to be more specific, heedful... day by day.
I thought to try to do some exercises, maybe when I'll have a little more time, in addition to speaking about our various things :D, in fact we're here to improve our knowledge.

Ps: has anybody heard speaking about SOPA and PIPA and the american laws about the copyright materials?

Luca,I never heard about Sopa and Pipa,I'll ask my sister. She lives in America...Maybe she knows something more about it....
It's allowed to a student to correct his teacher??? You wrote:Less colder is not write(right)

Sleep well everybody..

What a lovely idea! I've just found this thread & I'd love to join you! Some of you have a very good level of English & I'm very impressed. I've only read the first 10 pages of the thread & my daughter is now going to kick me off the computer as she needs it to study with. But, I'll be back!

Perhaps the people who want to be corrected could say so. I don't think it's necessary to correct every little mistake, some of them are lovely & the majority of mistakes are easily understood!

Harma

Maestro Giardinauta
Hi jp60,nice to "see" another face.Your level is really high,I am curious to know the reason....I see you live in Toscany too ...I live between Siena and Firenze...I am always happy when you'll correct my mistakes......

jp60

Giardinauta
Of course my level is very high! :fischio: I'm English!! I live near Volterra and I've been in Italy for nearly thirty years.
How did you learn English ? What do you find difficult?

I live in Tuscany with a 'u'. We also call Firenze 'Florence'.
I am always happy for you to correct my mistakes.

Sorry, I don't want to 'nitpick'. It may be useful to people reading this thread if I use English expressions that aren't often found in text books.

Somebody wrote that English people don't know the rules. This is very true! Many people make spelling mistakes even with small words such as there / their / they're. I've noticed this a lot since I started using internet, but what the hell, we're here to enjoy ourselves!

Harma

Maestro Giardinauta
wow..... so now we have 3 teachers!!! Great!!!
I'm Dutch and studied English at school .I've been in Italy for 37 years...and I still make a lot of mistakes, especially "tra" male and female, and that is very embarrassing sometimes..

Luca....I asked my sister about Sopa and Pipa, but she never heard about that...sorry

jp60

If you search on Google, you will find information about SOPA and PIPA. Whether it is correct, I couldn't say. Both have been suspended for the time being.
I'm not sure what that has got to do with this thread though. I don't see why we can't use links to other sites that have material for studying English.

I'm too old to be embarassed by any mistakes I make when speaking Italian. I am forgetting some of my English though! That is embarassing!

Harma

Maestro Giardinauta
This thread is just for....how to say??? fun? We can talk about everything, but it must not be a study...For me it's like that,I'm too old to study a new language:hehe:

Hi!
And welcome to JP! Nice to 'meet' you :) You said you are English.. where are you from?
Thanks for making yourself available, much appreciated. By the way, you already taught me something new: nitpick.. I'd have said: "I don't want to be picky" because I knew only the adjective, I'll keep in mind there's also that verb.

For Harma:

......and I still make a lot of mistakes, especially "tra" male and female, and that is very embarrassing sometimes.....

The word you were searching for is 'between' :)

Hello Elena, nitpick originally meant to remove the eggs of lice from people's hair! A job that needed a lot of care and attention. We use it to describe someone who notices every small mistake & criticizes a lot.

Is it snowing where you live? We woke up with more snow this morning, but it has stopped now & I hope we have seen the last of it!

I hope everyone is feeding the birds. Every morning I leave food for them outside and there are so many that come to eat.
