..Well, if you look at it, you may notice you were actually a little dramatic with that 'goodbye forever'.... since now here you are again!!! :hands13::lol: (and I'm just glad of that :D)

As for telling you if I notice some mistakes, sure. I dare say we are all available to do that with each other, here, that's part of the purpose of the thread, at least for us Italians. Just know that my English may sound good, but I make mistakes, too, and I might not notice yours, so I'll do my best, okay?

And, by the way, you are welcome :)

See you later!

ps: so far, so good :eek:k07:

Okay!

In the meantime I see television series in English
subtitled in Italian ... one step at a time

bye to all :Saluto:

Belvedere great to see you back, chin up and soldier on!

Elena it's a long time since I last heard the expression 'good night, sleep tight'! My mother always used to say that to us when we were small  memories!

As for the book depository, I've been using them for quite a while and have always had a great service. Once a book went missing and they sent me another one no problem! They did have a sister site for DVDs and CDs, but I think it's closed.

Melissa I've only ever been on short flights, I don't know how people cope with long hauls! A pity you don't see eye to eye with RA. I know, they are a con, but they are still cheaper than other companies if you're caredul. I've never had a late flight either, perhaps I've just been lucky!

I've been thinking about buying an ebook or Kindle for my partially sighted father. Any advice on which one to choose? It would useful for him to be able to enlarge the print.

Hello Daria,, nice to 'meet' you. A small correction if you don't mind. We usually use 'watch' when we are talking about the television. Keep up the good work!

dear jp60,
i didn't understand what this words means! i had to consult the dictionary.... well, i learned a new expression!
anyway thanks for your wishes.

about flights, it's a long time i didn't fly; once i went to tunisia with a low cost company.... when i saw the small airplain i thought: it's a toy: it's impossibile it will fly really!

luckly i had no problems, touchdown apart (the airport in genoa is very very particulary: the landing strip is just on the sea: if they are wrong.... they land on the water!

That's one of my fav ways, watching movies in English. Usually I don't find them with subtitles, so sometimes I can pick up only a few words here and there (it depends a lot on the accents!!!!), but I believe in the passive learning so I keep on :eek:k07:

I'm happy to be here :tupitupi:

Nice!!! :hands13:

:) I learnt it from my first American boyfriend, it brings up sweet memories for me too. I love those cute ways to say (how do you call them in general? I found catchphrases, but not sure it's appropriate), and lullabies too

Well, I then will say... See you later, 'gator!! :D

I had never heard that expression before, either, but could get the general meaning..

As for the airport in Genoa, I heard about it! If I well remember, not all of the pilots are allowed to land there (same in other cities in the world of similar or even more difficult conditions).

Btw, for Melissa and Josephine: do you just use 'touchdown' also for airplanes, and is it the most common way to say it? I would have said 'landing', so I'm curious about it

Planes land; I landed at Genova. "Touchdown" I believe is the moment when the wheels of the plane actually touch the runway.

I must remember never to take a plane to Genova!

Hello Michela :Saluto:

According to www.phrases.org.uk, chin up is an American expression. It just means to be courageous and to soldier on is to carry on with determination.

Well today it is raining, again! I don't want to be ungrateful, but could someone turn off the tap and let the sun come back! I have grass up to my knees and the weeds are growing faster than my plants!

I forgot to say my sister is running in the London Marathon on Sunday in aid of cancer. I couldn't walk it let alone run it, so a big :hands13: for her and all the others running to raise money to fight this horrible illness. If anyone would like to contribute they can go to www.virginmoneygiving.com/ClaireEverall and make a donation with Paypal and leave her a message.

hehe, same here! I had already thought: "Looks like we did a great job with the rain-dance, a few weeks ago...." :storto:

@ Melissa: last night I watched a movie released last year, "That's what I am", with Ed Harris. It's about some kids in their 8th grade (Junior School) and their teacher. The main carachter is a kid who likes a girl, and in order to ask her a kiss he buys an I.D. bracelet to give her as a present. They depict this as it was a common rule among the kids of that age (more or less: I give you this bracelet, if you accept it you give me a kiss), in the 60s.. Was it really so common, as far as you know?

(That's what I am, article)

(even if you feel bad about your English, still want support with it? in case, Tuscany, instead of Toscany, and I think it should be 'look at...', not only 'look', but about that our native friends will tell us better)

Hello Daria!
I'm among the blessed ones, but no need to envy me, or you should also opt for a flu virus :storto:

As for your question, that's an interesting one... I checked and it seems like in a case like that 'the latter' would be more suitable, since you can use it when there're only two 'items', 'the last' when there're more. JP or Melissa will tell us (thanks Jo for the other check!)..
(in any case, thanks for asking, Daria, I would have written 'the latest' and would have been probably wrong)

Enjoy your weekend, everybody! :D
