Thanks for the kind words, Roberto, and allow me to return the compliment: you write good English! Like you I enjoy languages.
I have kind memories of North Carolina, having gone to graduate school at Chapel Hill many years ago. I imagine the state has changed considerably since then, but the hills and mountains are beautiful, somewhat resembling the hills where I live now. I do love this kind of landscape and am very happy to live here.
I'm a native of north Florida (very different from south Florida) and after I left there lived for ten years in Washington state, then I came here with my husband and daughter. My husband's an Italian native, though he spent most of his adult life in the U.S.
Given the state of our family budget I'm not going anywhere these days, but I would love to go to Great Britain. I would see the gardens (YES!!!), and the museums and monuments and great houses, and I'd browse the second hand stores for books and woolen clothing. Well, no doing, at least for now, but it's a nice thought.

Harma you mean a social assistant? It seems impossible that you were laid off work!

Melissa flying to the UK can be very cheap these days. If you are fairly flexible with dates, Ryanair do some really cheap flights. Of course, there's the expense of a place to stay, but London isn't obligatory. It's easy for me to return as I stay with my family, but I would love to go on a garden tour holiday around England. Perhaps we should organize a trip for members of this site! One of my first stops when I get home are the 'junk' shops for books! They are so expensive now and I pick up some really good books for next to nothing. Browsing is all part of the fun.

Perhaps this online bookstore could be interesting for you, it's based in UK and the shipping is free, the delivery not very fast in my experience but everything arrived in perfect condition and I'm just satisfied with the service. There're often great discounts, so check it out!

Hello everybody,
I'm Roberto, 25 years old, I live in Turin and I'm a student of foreign languages (English and Spanish). I have already said something about me in the "Presentazioni" forum, but I thought I would just introduce myself again in this topic haha!

I don't have the chance to practice my English very often, so I believe this to be a good opportunity, and amusing too. Luca, you had a great idea and i really enjoyed your first post! :)) How old are you? From what I see you're still in school, right?

Hi Roberto, and welcome :)

I'm a fellow Italian, like you and just around your age I began to study Spanish and English because I wanted to move abroad and thought those two languages were my best chance to make it as smooth as possible. After three years I gave up with Spanish because I felt like at that level I needed to practice it a lot more (I mean, in everyday situations) but had no way to do it. Instead, I kept on with English and here I am, many years later, after some trips to the States and, well, also some American boyfriend, something that --as a teacher of mine used to tell us-- it's always a great wat to learn a foreign language, hehe!

Here a couple of pictures for you, taken in my garden a few weeks ago, when the blooming of daffodils had its glorious moment:

...........I often tell people to mix in with visiting tourists, listen to the guides and hope they don't chase you away!

Hehe, Josephine, you don't know how many times I thought to do that... ;)

As Jo already knows, I'm at home these days because I caught the flu (yuck!). So I was thinking: I have these decks of cards (in English) whose pictures I just like (they remind me of fairytale books), would you want me to draw a card for you and see what it says in answer to some question you might have?

If you feel like playing and have some fun, just let me know :)

Jo,
I appreciate the suggestion, but it's not something I can think of now. Not least, I'm on Ryanair's blacklist, and they on mine, as a result of...well, an interaction we had a while back. I don't like being treated like cattle, and they don't like passengers who delay a plane flight for two hours. I've decided, in fact, that I'm never again going to fly ANYWHERE unless I can get there no other way, which means flying to visit my family in the U.S. I'll fly to see them, but on a plane otherwise--NEVER.
I've flown a lot since I moved to Italy twelve years ago, going back and forth between here and the U.S., and it has just gotten worse and worse and worse. Once I enjoyed flying, but now it's somewhere between a bore and a torture. I'm going to Florida this summer with my daughter, and can only pray nothing seriously unpleasant will happen. I have a lot more experience than I want with the things that can go wrong on a long air trip.
Melissa
P.S. Very pretty photos, Elena; I particularly like that bicolor.

Yeihh, hi Belvedere! I thought of you too, when I came here today to write on the thread, so I'm very glad to find you here now :)
I do wish you all the best, my friend!!
Yes, doing whatever makes you feel well and you can enjoy is always a great idea, keep on with that, weather it's reading or writing on the forum, or something else.. Look for what you'd feel like doing at each moment, and then go for it, no matter what it is, the only important thing is just feeling well. As you'll know our mood and state of mind increase our immune system, so giving ourselves what we feel might be enjoyable is a totally no cost and side-effects free medicine always available for us, why not taking the chance, then? I do that myself as much as possible, and never regret it ;)

..Well, if you look at it, you may notice you were actually a little dramatic with that 'goodbye forever'.... since now here you are again!!! :hands13::lol: (and I'm just glad of that :D)

As for telling you if I notice some mistakes, sure. I dare say we are all available to do that with each other, here, that's part of the purpose of the thread, at least for us Italians. Just know that my English may sound good, but I make mistakes, too, and I might not notice yours, so I'll do my best, okay?

And, by the way, you are welcome :)

See you later!

ps: so far, so good :eek:k07:
